Hot Glass Level 2 Condensed

Sundays, Feb 15 & 22

Take the next step in learning glassblowing with this condensed, two day version of level 2. The content is the same, but because you will meet on two weekend days for six hours per class it will help accelerate the learning process. Continuing from Level 1 the focus of this course is dexterity and proper usage of heat and tools, with an introduction to bowls.

THATO KOKWANA

In Fall 2025, Public Glass welcomed South African artists Thato Kokwana and Kgomotso Mtsweni for a glass exchange. During their time in San Francisco, the artists worked closely with the studio team and learned cane techniques with David Patchen. Kgomotso and Thato worked on a collaborative project and also gave an artist talk, sharing about their developing practices and the cultural landscape that informs their work.

Public Glass was honored to host Kgomotso and Thato as part of their glass adventures; we hope they can return in the future.

Many thanks to Mary White, glass artist and former longtime instructor at San José State University, who coordinated the glass exchange. Mary met the two artists during the 2024 Glass Safari in South Africa, where she was one of seven visiting artists working alongside students and faculty from Tshwane University of Technology at the Ngwenya Glass Factory in Eswatini.
