CURRENT CLASSES
Organic Forms
Specialty Workshop
Starts March 20 at 5:30
Explore glass as a fluid, focusing on the natural flow and movement of molten glass, experimenting with inclusions, interior spaces, layered color, and atmospheric effects.
This class encourages more expressive, experimental forms that blur the line between vessel and sculpture, considering glass as a fluid in motion.
Hot Glass Level 3 Condensed
Sundays, Mar 15 & 22
Take the next step in learning glassblowing with this condensed, two day version of level 3. This class will intensely explore the refinement of basic shapes.
Bottle and vase shapes will be reviewed along with more advance color application. The roles of "gaffer" and "assistant" will be emphasized and experienced by everyone. You will gain understanding of team orchestration through communication in the execution of your work.

VISITING ARTIST SPOTLIGHT
KGOMOTSO MTSWENI

THATO KOKWANA

In Fall 2025, Public Glass welcomed South African artists Thato Kokwana and Kgomotso Mtsweni for a glass exchange. During their time in San Francisco, the artists worked closely with the studio team and learned cane techniques with David Patchen. Kgomotso and Thato worked on a collaborative project and also gave an artist talk, sharing about their developing practices and the cultural landscape that informs their work.

Public Glass was honored to host Kgomotso and Thato as part of their glass adventures; we hope they can return in the future.
Many thanks to Mary White, glass artist and former longtime instructor at San José State University, who coordinated the glass exchange. Mary met the two artists during the 2024 Glass Safari in South Africa, where she was one of seven visiting artists working alongside students and faculty from Tshwane University of Technology at the Ngwenya Glass Factory in Eswatini.
