RENT THE COLD SHOP

Rent our Cold Shop for $25/hour for nonmembers and members. In the interest of safety, anyone who wishes to use the Cold Shop must first complete our coldworking level 1 class or have equivalent experience. That means knowledge of all of the equipment and shutdown procedures. Additionally there is a yearly mandatory cold shop certification test before access to using the cold shop.  Click the button below to do the test:

 

Cold Shop rental includes

  • 24" diamond / pre-polish lap wheel with 60 grit, 140 grit, 270 grit, 325 grit, 600 grit, and cerium discs

  • 2 Cerium polishing wheels ( cerium is included in cold shop rental)

  • 104" vertical wet belt sander with round rubber roller platen with 40 grit, 60 grit, 80 grit, 120 grit, 220 grit, 400 grit, 600 grit, and cork belts

  • Covington Lathe with one arbor and 1 in diameter spindle:  4 in Radiused wheels - 60 grit, 100 grit, 180 grit, 360 grit, and 600 grit wheels and 6 in Radiused wheels: 80 grit, 100 grit, 180 grit, and 360 grit wheels, 3 size cerium wheels

  •  Husqvarna tile saw with 12" and 13.5" diamond saws

  • Diamond coring drill press

  • 220 grit sandblaster

  • Foredom flex shaft with foot pedal and diamonds bits

Prerequisite to Coldshop membership or rental is level 1 or equivalent experience.

After level 1, students can rent time under a studio monitor at art flow 

 

Members vs Nonmembers

Studio memberships are available and provide discounted hourly rates, online booking access, and no limits on rental times. Choose between a basic membership to get 10% off or a premium membership to get 20% off. Monthly and yearly memberships available.

Members get discounted rates plus cheaper tiered rentals: 1 hour- $25, 3 hours- $45, and 6 hours- $60. Hotshop members gain access to cold shop rentals on their hotshop booking page. Fusing, flameworking, stained glass, and casting must buy a monthly or annual coldshop membership to gain access to the tiered coldshop online rentals. Members may also book as a nonmember through operations@publicglass.org- all rentals must be paid before booking will be added into the calendar. Please allow a couple days to process any nonmember booking.

 

Nonmembers pay per hour and must book and pay invoice 72 hours ahead of time through email: operations@publicglass.org. First time nonmembers are limited to book while staff is present. First time nonmembers please email:

  • coldworking experience: classes, school, previous studios

  • which machines you have worked on before and which machines you plan to use on the rental

  • photos of work

  • date and renting time

Booking Policies:

Members are able to book the cold shop 5 minutes before the time of the rental. Cancellations and rescheduling must be done 48 hours in advance.

Please note: We rent to nonmembers as well. All non-member rentals must be processed by email to rentals@publicglass.org, and your request must be approved and the invoice paid before rental time. Any requests made in less than 72 hours for nonmembers will not be approved

Cancellation Policy: No credit or refund can be issued if a cancellation occurs 9 days or less before your class date. This helps us guarantee stable wages for our hard-working artist instructors. If a cancellation occurs 10 days or more before the start of class, please submit a written request to operations@publicglass.org as soon as you know of a possible conflict. Your account will be credited with the cost of the class. You can apply this credit to a future class, our online shop, or event. Please email operations@publicglass.org to use the credit on your account. Excessive rescheduling will result in an administrative fee.  ​ Online class registration closes 2 days before the first session. For late registration, questions or guidance on our programs, please email us at: info@publicglass.org.  As a small nonprofit, our goal is to keep access to the studios affordable and to employ the independent artists who have committed to teach you. Monetary refunds are issued at the discretion of management. In the rare case that we are able to issue a refund, our processing platforms will keep a minimum of 10% non-refundable fees. Keeping the credit on your account is highly encouraged. It ensures that you get to keep 100% of your credit while supporting our artists and community.  Thank you for your support and understanding.
