Jan 7- Feb 18, class skips Feb 11 This 6 week course will teach you how to carve lenses and facets on solid or blown glass. Now that you have tried out each machine (in Level 1) this class will focus on the Saw, Belt Sander, Lathe, Lap wheel, and Ceriums wheels. The class will start off using the saw to cut the rough shapes. Then move onto the lathe for round lenses or the lap wheel for facets. Students will take the glass from 60 grit to a shiny cerium polish. The polished glass will have new optical qualities from the coldworking that will catch light in new ways. By the end of this course you will have time to work on a sculptural piece of your own design with the instructors advice. Next level 3 class will cover complex optic curves on glass as well as glue with uv glue or silicone glue Please bring your Respirator with p100 particulate filters, wear closed-toed (possibly waterproof) shoes, clothing that is not loose or dangling, something to tie up long hair, and clothes that can get wet. A water bottle is recommended.
